How to Get to St. John
Find a flight into St. Thomas (airport code STT).
Grab the Redhook ferry to St. John’s and arrive in Cruz Bay.
Get bug repellent ASAP - there’s a lovely local herbal concoction that works miracles.
Cruz Bay has all the commerce, but I love Coral Bay and Jeeping across the jungle mountain roads.
Don’t wait at the STT airport if you have a gap in your schedule…
… Not when you could grab a beach side chair or table at the middling Emerald Bay Resort and enjoy views like these.
The Ferry
Wait for the ferry at “The Beach Bar” in Cruz Bay, St. John, The Virgin Islands. Totally fine if you stay until sunset.
It’s noisy, and the diesel smells, but there’s something magical about being in the absolute middle of the ocean and watching as the ocean turns turquoise with the rise of the islands.
Eating in Cruz Bay
There’s chaotic bars, drinks in the street, and some of the finest haute cuisine.
