There were too many photos of the fires across the California Central Coast … so I divided my earlier post “Wild Photos of Santa Cruz Mountain Fires” into a second post covering the Big Sur, Carmel/Salinas Fires. #dolanfire #carmelfire #riverfire

CARMEL #CarmelFire
As of THU 8/20 it is anticipated that the Carmel and River Fires will eventually merge together. As of 7pm 8/20 the Carmel Fire is 4,428 acres, 0% containment, with full containment anticipated on 8/30/2020. 28 Structures destroyed, 462 threatened.

Kakani Katija is publishing great Google Earth images help to illustrate how lightning strikes at the top and bottom of the Carmel mountains are inexorably merging together. Images below are ONE DAY APART.

BIG SUR #DolanFire
WOW so apparently this particular fire is man made. Who commits arson during a fire? Effing 2020.
If you’ve visited, you know Big Sur is quite remote, and right now it is competing with the rest of the Central Coast for well needed supplies.

““Big Sur has always been in focus when a fire starts and this time is no different, however we are seeing unprecedented need across the state for the exact same resources which leaves few to none for us here for the first time in recent memory.
Our partners were only able to send a few engines and hand crews to help because nearly all other resources were committed to other incidents. The thick smoke clinging to the coast has also shut down the use of air support short term which as made it even more apparent this will be a long duration incident. ”

Big Sur Fire volunteers say it was a strange start to the #DolanFire last night. When crews were arriving on scene someone threw rocks at their rigs.
